The best time to visit Sikkim, season by season

There is no single best month for Sikkim. It depends on whether you want flowers, snow or the clearest view of Kanchenjunga. Here is how the year breaks down.

Spring: March to May

The most popular season. Days are pleasant in Gangtok and the rhododendrons bloom in the high valleys, with Yumthang at its most colourful around April and May. Book early, as hotels in Lachen and Lachung fill up.

Monsoon: June to September

Heavy rain brings lush green hills and far fewer visitors, but also landslides that can close roads, especially in North Sikkim. Keep the plan flexible and allow a spare day.

Autumn: October and November

Often the clearest weather of the year, with crisp mornings and wide views of the snow peaks. A favourite for photographers and for the drive to Gurudongmar Lake.

Winter: December to February

Cold, with snow at higher altitudes. Gangtok stays accessible, but high-altitude roads such as those to Nathula and Gurudongmar can close after heavy snowfall, so those days are always subject to weather and permits.
